The Story of
PINS & NEEDLES
Pins & Needles (formerly known as Vanarags Studio) was launched in 2006 by two mums who love sewing and knitting. As well as wanting to promote these useful, creative past times to a new generation, the benefits of mindfulness and honing fine motor skills have always been front of mind. Our clubs provide a period of calm in the day without the distraction of screens or the traditional atmosphere of the classroom.
OUR ETHOS
We aim to give every child who attends our clubs and workshops (or attempts one of our make-at-home kits) that amazing "I made this!" feeling. Our wide range of projects means we can help the absolute beginner as well as challenge the accomplished sewist. Your child does not need any previous sewing experience – we're fully inclusive for any boys or girls who want to join us.
What your child can expect from our clubs and workshops
For new Pins & Needles kids, your first session will involve tackling a relatively simple project, which will give your Pins & Needles teacher an understanding of what your child should tackle next. All club attendees will work on the same cute project but for the assured sewists, we will provide more complex instructions around finishing and also provide extra elements to add to their finished item.
What kind of things will my child be making?
Overall, our projects create cute, fun objects and animals. For example, a traditional first project for beginners would be a red apple but then we would quickly move on to a teddy bear (his name is Rubtum, by the way), bunny rabbit, hedgehog, bee, ice cream, doughnut... the list is long but always fun.
We also make projects relevant to the time of year, so you're likely to see a cheeky ghost or a cute monster around Halloween or an increase in the use of green and red felt towards Christmas.
And, of course, whatever your child makes in their club or workshop, they bring home to proudly show you!
